The XJ6 is one of the most widely used commuter bikes in the UK and Europe — buyers' guides for this model consistently flag crash damage as a standard item to check on any used example, simply because so many are dropped in daily urban use. Yamaha themselves listed an engine guard as an official catalogue accessory, recognising the reality of commuter riding.

Protection matched to how the XJ6 is actually ridden

On the naked XJ6N the engine sits fully exposed. On the half-faired Diversion S, a fall means cracked fairing panels on top of engine damage. In both versions, one owner noted that adding crash bars makes damage from an inevitable drop almost entirely superficial.
