Why the 990 SM needs crash bars more than most

The LC8 V-twin is one of the most powerful and characterful supermoto engines ever built — but its cylinders sit exposed on both sides of the frame, directly in the line of contact in any low-side crash or parking lot tip-over. Supermoto riding in traffic, on canyon roads, and at track days produces exactly the kind of slide that puts those cylinder heads on the ground first. Without crash bars, one fall means cracked engine covers or damaged cylinder heads.
